DMSS with the initiative of its Executive Director Mrs. Mahbuba Sarkar, distributes winter cloths and blankets every year in the loving memory of its founder Mr. Apurba Sarkar

Dr. Awrthi Sarkar from Ilia State University, Georgia in association with DMSS distributes biodegradable sanitary napkins to indigenous women of Joypurhat, Bangladesh. Awrthi also shares her knowledge and educates our women on the importance of menstrual hygiene and cycle. She also took questions and advised our girls and women about best practices and spread awareness.

As part of DMSS’s new project, “From Waste to Worth: Uplifting Women in the Plastic Sector,” funded by UK International Development and Global Plastic Action, we launched the “Plastic Hero” event to honor the invaluable contribution of plastic workers—especially women—who play a vital role in safeguarding our environment. This initiative aims to empower women engaged in the plastic value chain by enhancing their skills, improving working conditions, and recognizing their often-overlooked environmental impact. Through this project, DMSS seeks to transform plastic waste management into a dignified, sustainable, and economically empowering livelihood for women.

The Plastic Hero event served as both a celebration and a call to action. We recognized the dedication of our plastic workers, whose daily efforts help keep our communities cleaner and our planet healthier. DMSS staff and beneficiaries actively participated in a community clean-up drive, demonstrating collective responsibility toward environmental stewardship. The event not only highlighted the importance of proper waste management but also reinforced the project's core mission—turning plastic waste into economic worth while uplifting women who form the backbone of the recycling sector.
